Gaze
2016 - 2018
We live in a vast flow of images and information. Understanding, value judgment, and moral judgment. We have to process too much information.
As society became more pluralistic, respective standards for "normal society" varied. We commit violence against others, whatever our intentions may be. In response, people are busy controlling and hiding parts of themselves, and only expose a little part of them. This produces depression.
With the advent of an era of virtual locality, solidarity has become scarce and the ability to empathize with each other has diminished. The spread of depression in this modern society accelerates. We desire the application of others and hope for success with the aim of overcoming depression. It continues to torture itself nonstop to enhance competitiveness, leading to the reproduction of violence and depression. In this vicious circle, we are the victims and both Perpetrators. Our Gaze forms another wall to hide behind today. I noted the intersections between various subjects’ gazes. As part of the Mimicry performed by animals, humans present screens to ensure safety from others. I seek a painting that is faithful to the role of the screen and projects the reality that is accustomed that we overlook into ‘the present mythical space’.
I define that the society got overthrown and can’t move forward in a position of mourning due to the absence of a screen. By visualizing the conceptual screen itself from a hypermedia perspective, and urging the perception of the existence of the opponent beyond the screen and ‘I as an opponent’ standing in front of the screen.
