Under the Screen
2021 -
It was pretty common for my generation to recognize the world first by watching cartoons, animations, and movies on flat screens before going out to society from their parents’ arms. Especially Animation forms a vast 'reality' in our minds while only providing simple and symbolized visual information. It is a medium that clearly shows us that we recognize and build the world in our heads with very little information.
For me, Japan Anime influenced me the most. It influenced me forming tastes, and I was able to get out of loneliness or confusion by empathizing with the characters. The Anime world inside my head was so realistic and powerful, that I felt gaps between the physical world we live in. The Anime world is not real, but it could show something we cannot see in the physical world. When I started to catch the reason for the gap between those two worlds, I got close to reality with that information.
My way to recognize reality was to accept both of those worlds in a critical manner and my work is about showing that point of view of mine.
